The North District typifies the park's vision of fusing academic and research amenities with urban living - offering restaurants, arts, entertainment, and recreation to support your after-work life. Research facilities and office buildings share their environment with shops, restaurants and housing. The district will consist of mainly public and private biomedical research that will complement scientific activity occurring at the adjacent Wake Forest University Health Sciences Biomedical Research Campus. The mixed-use development will link the North District to the city's downtown. New facilities will be built alongside historic buildings that preserve the unique character of area and urban parks connected by tree-lined sidewalks augment the pedestrian-friendly landscape. Planned roadway improvements will reduce block sizes to enhance pedestrian and vehicular circulation and to improve parcelization of the land.
